Jimmys Old Town Tavern: Your Go-To Pub for Authentic American Comfort Food in Herndon, VA

Showed up on a cold busy Friday night on the winter and was seated in 5 minutes. Large portions severed hot. Was thrilled that I finally visited the famous Buffalo themed bar after learning about it on the Mike Omera show. Worth checking it out if you are in the area, large public parking lots across the street.

Really great bar with super friendly staff. Leanne took care of me and was super sweet. I came for the start of the Texans Pats divisional round and there were plenty of tvs in the bar area and they pumped the game audio through the bar speakers. But one thing that really stuck out to me was that they turned the music back on for commercial breaks. In a world where we’re inundated with advertising everywhere it was nice to be able to just vibe in between bouts of stress watching my team once again underperform. Food was lovely, really great buffalo sauce and poutine!

Eating at Jimmy’s is like being with family! I always have a delightful time. My choice on the menu is the chicken stew and house salad. The staff is friendly and the casual vibe is welcoming. Affordable and delicious!

We hosted my husband’s 80th birthday party here and absolutely loved it. Jimmy, Christi, Ashley our host, and the chefs were such a delight to work with and made the day incredibly special for us. The food was delicious!

As a standard American tavern, Jimmy's offers a decent sized menu of soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, wings, and main courses with a fairly extensive drink menu. I had a hard time deciding on what to order, but I went with the cheese steak and it was pretty good. Not only was the food good, so was the atmosphere and the service. Overall I enjoyed my meal and I look forward to going back to try something else.

I wasn’t sure what to think when I walked in. The first thing I noticed was the smell of smoke when I opened the door. Thankfully, smoking is confined to the bar. The dining room is smoke-free. The ambiance is Buffalo NY. I had the Buffalo platter which included wings, a beef-on-weck sandwich, kielbasa, and pierogies. All delicious and for a reasonable price. The mango cart wheat beer was one of the best beers I’ve ever had. Service was quick and friendly with the exception of getting the check. We had to flag down the waiter to ask for it. To be fair, he was pretty busy. I would have been bothered much more if the food was slow.

Stopped into Jimmy’s while passing through the area and couldn’t have picked a better spot. The cup of chili was outstanding—perfect comfort food on a cold, windy evening. Justin, the bartender, was energetic, outgoing, and absolutely on his game, which made the experience even better. I also had the cheesesteak, and it was done to perfection. Justin ran a Monday Night Football half-time trivia game which kept everyone engaged and entertained. Great food, great service, and a place I’d gladly stop at again. Highly recommend.

Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern has been a pillar of the community for the past 30 years! Great food, great prices, and great people. There’s always fun events happening and you always feel welcomed. It’s rare to have such a fine independently owned restaurant still running so successfully in Northern Virginia, which has gone through some major changes in the past few years alone. I cherish my visits and I’m proud to have been coming here since I was a child. Stop in and have some wings tonight!
